Everyone: On Wednesdays, please do not start setting up until 4:30 or until after the HOA crew has finished sweeping up the floor. The Quilters who are in the room just before us often drop pins or other sharp objects on the floor, so it is in our interest to have the floor cleaned before we start practice.

Tournament with Rossmoor: Lunch and More

We are maintaining our tradition of hosting a really great lunch with home-cooked or hand-selected offerings from our club participants and others coming to watch and cheer. We still need drinks and fruit for the morning, and for lunch a few more salads and desserts. Please sign up at practice times or contact Tom Surh (510-610-3578) or Brenda. Those not bringing food or drinks should pay $10 to Tom or Brenda to cover the cost of food to be purchased.

New time Tuesday 2/5 5:00-9:00pm

On Tuesday 2/5 we will be starting Table Tennis practice at 5pm, and the Coaching session will run until 9pm.

The Rio Vista room is in use until 5pm by another club, so please don’t disturb the residents using the space.

Rules About Touching The Table During Play

Here’s a brief PingSkills video to explain the rules regarding touching the table during a point. It is clear from this video that the only part of the player’s body that is not allowed to touch the table is the free hand that is not holding the paddle. The palm, side, or back of the free hand are forbidden from touching the table during play, otherwise the opponent wins the point. The other important rule is that the table must not move when any part of the player’s body touches the table.

Preliminary Doubles Teams, Sat Feb 2nd Doubles Matches

At the request of several members, we will be trying to strengthen our Doubles teams in preparation for the Rossmoor tournament. For most of you this will mean different partners than you may have had in the past, but the overall objective is to present a more competitive response to Rossmoor’s Doubles teams. To give you a chance to begin practicing with your preliminary partner, see the list below. We’ll have a chance to compete as Doubles teams on Saturday February 2nd starting at 10am. The first round will be round robins with mixed skill levels at a table. The 2nd round will group the teams at a table based on how well they did in the first round.

Unlike previous tournaments where we’ve scheduled everybody to play, only to inevitably have a few players drop out, then have incomplete team/groups that require someone playing double matches, often in different groups, this time we will have several designated alternates.

TT Club Rescheduled from Sat. 1/12 to Sun 1/13 9am-6pm

Due to a memorial on Sat. 1/12/19, the Table Tennis club has been rescheduled to Sunday 1/13 9am to 6:00pm.

Wanted: Unused Table Tennis Rackets

Old Betsy

Do you have one or more old/unused table tennis rackets just collecting dust in the back of the closet? How would you like to donate it for use in the new “Community Ping-Pong” events. These events are for people that may be intimidated by the skill of the Table Tennis Club, but would really enjoy hitting the ball like they did in their youth. Your old/unused racket is probably a much better starter than they would buy at Walmart.

And a bonus for all of us is that the more residents we have enjoying Ping-Pong and Table Tennis, the better the justification for a dedicated spot in the new clubhouse. Please see Kim if you’d like to make a contribution

Sat. 1/5/2019 Rescheduled to 4:30pm start time

Due to a memorial on Sat. 1/5/19 in the morning and early afternoon, the Table Tennis club time will start on Sat. at 4:30pm.

2019 TT Club Membership Dues

Here’s an early start on a New Years Resolution to stay healthy, active and exercising your mind… Renew your TT Club membership! 🙂

The Membership Registration Forms, Envelopes and Pens are located on the TT Club Box (the wooden box that houses the Robo-pong, Balls and spare paddles). Dues for renewing members should be in no later than January 31st.

This year the process is (all items located on the TT Club Box):
1. Fill out the Membership Registration Form
2. Make a $30 Check payable to “TRVTTC”
3. Place in a envelope (fold flap into envelope, do NOT seal, don’t write on it)
4. Deposit the envelope in the TT Club’s Drop-Box (below the Pens & Forms)
